Which geodesic dome diameter should you choose? 5, 6, 7 or 8 metres

Choosing a diameter means balancing living space, perceived height, regulatory constraints and budget. The four models serve distinct uses.
Areas and prices
The area-to-price ratio changes quickly with diameter:
- Ø 5 m — 19.62 m² — €3,990 incl. VAT excluding promotion: an unusual bedroom for two, under the 20 m² threshold
- Ø 6 m — 28.26 m² — €4,990 excl. VAT: sleeping area plus shower room
- Ø 7 m — 38.46 m² — €5,990 excl. VAT: family accommodation
- Ø 8 m — 50.24 m² — €6,990 excl. VAT: large volume, reception or professional use
Height, often overlooked
Maximum height follows diameter:
- 4 m diameter: 2.36 m in height
- 6 m diameter: 3.54 m
- 8 m diameter: 4.72 m
- 10 m diameter: 5 m
The regulatory criterion
In France, staying under 20 m² of floor area simplifies the process: a prior declaration is enough, whereas a building permit is required beyond 20 m². The 5 m dome is therefore the most common entry point for a first project.
